March 2010

Auto Detailing with Wayne Fletcher

Greetings WIN LeTippers!

Back at Riverwalk this meeting we had a great turnout with several guests.  Terry Farruk of Way2Execute started our minds and engines revving by asking “Who do you Love?”   Of course, it should be you! Love yourself, love your business and it will show!

We started off with Good News!  Terry signed his son up for Pee Wee football and they are still looking for cheerleaders, just in case there are any wee LeTippers that want to start a cheer career.  Barbara Lukehart of Youngevity announced that she has yet another grandchild and this time it’s finally a girl! Way to go Barbara.

We welcomed several guests this week.  Roman Schwab, a network engineer of Remsis IT-Solutions, joined us and told us how his company can keep your computer networks humming and working for you.  Elyse Wilhm, a Financial Services Associate of Prudential, discussed how she focuses on clients goals and is very customer service driven.  Vanessa Swafford, an Interior Designer of VanMarie Interiors, joined us for a second time and discussed how she does residential interior design and has 8 years of kitchen and bath experience.  We are so honored to have these great professionals visit us and urge them to join us soon, we would love to build our group with their expertise and business sense. We love guests and invite service experts and professionals to join us.  See our list of current openings on our website and come to the next meeting.

Today we started with elections.  The ballots were passed around and everyone unanimously agreed to vote in all that were listed.  For the board positions the following people were elected for another term: President,  Rich Yumul of SageTree Solutions; Vice-president, Patty Sterling of Pacific Coast Trust; Treasurer, Sue Crowder of Union Bank and Ana Meyers of Meyers Bookkeeping; Secretary, Terry Farouk of Way2Execute; TipMaster, Shamim Matin of San Diego Center for Health with Dr. John McConnell our Psychologist as assistant; Membership, Mikel Bruce of Tiny Frog Technologies and Seth O’Byrne of O’Byrne Real Estate Consultants. For a full list of positions see our website.

In case you didn’t know, Anne Pettay of Guardian is who we are trying to tip the most this month. Who will be the biggest tipper this month and win the prize money?

In a special recognition ceremony we honored Rich Yumul, our President with a special gift certificate.  We wanted Rich to know that we all appreciate the hard work and dedication he has to WIN LeTip.

Wayne Fletcher of Mr. Michael’s Auto Salon told us all about car washing and detailing both interior and exterior.  He discussed paint and how you need to clean it and keep it waxed in order to make it last longer.  He also mentioned that you should never wash your car with dishwasher detergent as it strips the oils from the paint and ruins it eventually.  (Take note do-it-yourselfers)  When Wayne comes to you he expertly washes and details your car inside and out. And then he also “clays” the car and then waxes it. The result is a shiny; see your face in it, exterior and a beautiful clean-smelling interior.  He can get some scratches and dents out and he can fix some paint issues.  Rich gave a glowing recommendation about his car looking and smelling great and Terry gave another glowing recommendation that Wayne made his wife’s car look like new again.  So if you want to keep your car looking its best talk to Wayne and get the full car detail treatment.

We then finished the meeting with our visitations and 30 second commercials.

As a quote to ponder:  “No pressure, no diamonds” (Mary Case)

Keep up the great work and see you next week Riverwalk.

System Integration

Greetings WIN LeTippers!

We had an awesome meeting at the Café on Park, the food is great !  We started off with a rousing cheer exercise from Terry Farouk of Way2Execute. Who knew that he was a cheerleader from a past life!

Good News

We started off with Good News!  Seth O’Byrne of O’Byrne Real Estate Consultants announced that his partner in his Real Estate practice is starting the Pacific Beach chapter of LeTip and if you know anyone that wants to be part of LeTip, and the position is filled in our chapter, there is a place for you in Pacific Beach!

Great Guests

We welcomed one guest this week, Dina Lyon, of Rush Press. Thanks Dina for braving the change of location and our rowdy group.  At the end of the meeting Dina had SEVEN escrow tips for printing projects.  This just goes to show that we REALLY need a printer.  We hope that Dina joins us soon.  We love guests and invite service experts and professionals to join us.  See our list of current openings on our website and come to the next meeting.

Big Tipping!

Today we awarded our past two months worth of big tippers.  For January the biggest tippers to Sue Crowder of Union Bank were Rich Yumul of Sagetree Solutions, Patty Sterling of Pacific Coast Trust, Mikel Bruce of Tiny Frog Technologies and Wayne Fletcher of Mr. Michael Car Wash Salon & Detailing Center LLC.  Each of the biggest tippers received $15 for the four-way tie for first place.

Next, for the February biggest tippers to Patty Sterling of Pacific Coast Trust, Sue Crowder (again!), Mikel Bruce (again!), and Debbie Bonham of Sew What Tailoring received prize money too.  Awards included $50 for 1st place to Sue, $25 to Mikel, and $25 to Debbie.  Way to pay for your membership dues by being a great tipper!

In case you didn’t know, Anne Pettay is who we are trying to tip the most this month too. Who will be the winner this month?

We then moved on to elections.  The election committee headed by Carol Lord Heuschele of C3 Marketing Consulting included Wayne Fletcher and Steve Clark of Steve Clark Home Improvements. The six board member position nominees spoke today to give us an idea of how they plan to grow the group and what they can do for WIN LeTip.

Seth and Mikel – the membership co-chairs, plan on growing the group to three times our size.  The goal is to shoot for 50 people by the end of the year.   Remember, it is not only Seth and Mikel that grow the group, it is everyone!

We then moved on to the TipMaster position.  Dr. Shamim Matin our Chiropractor and Dr. John McConnell our Psychologist plan on heading up this important seat.  The doctors will keep our tips straight and help us tip each other correctly.

For the Secretary position, Terry plans on introducing ideas on how to make the group grow. Terry has already proven that he is a positive driving force in the group so we look forward to his participation.

The Treasurer position will be covered by Ana Meyers of Meyers Bookkeeping and Sue. Both Ana and Sue are committed to keeping our accounts straight!

For the Vice President position, Patty stood up and told us how she plans on keeping up the good work that she has been doing for us the past year with the board meetings and other VP duties.

Finally for President, Rich has stepped up for another year. You can’t get better than Rich for dedication and commitment to the group.

A list of the rest of the nominations were passed around and if anyone does not like what chair or committee they were placed in, please contact the election committee and we can discuss alternates.

Systems Integration

In this jam-packed meeting we then moved on to our Roundtable discussion headed by Rich.  Rich spoke about Systems Integration which in the business context (not computer programming) is the process by which you take a prospect and turn it into a sale.  Having a good system helps you identify good and bad spots in your sales process and helps you duplicate the sales process that leads to your best sales. Rich suggested that once you have identified your best sales process you then make a script. Then when you make a future sales call to a prospect or receive a call, you can follow your script and you don’t have to worry about what to do or say and put your energy into the prospect call not what you are going to say or hope you don’t miss anything.  We then moved into discussing with our power partners ways that you can improve your sales process and then add on to the sales process more work for your power partner. Great topic Rich, and we look forward to being more efficient in our sales process.

We then had our raffle thanks to Steve our showboater for bringing the liquor and Sue for bringing the macadamia nuts.  The winners nicely shared!

Next week we are back at Riverwalk and we would love to see you there.

Help for Homeowners

Greetings Le Tippers!

We started the meeting with an exercise for the mind with a partner. Each person discussed how they helped a business or customer. Funny thing about this exercise is that it really helped focus on what you can do for other people and how you just did it for a customer. This was an excellent exercise for creating your 30-second speech.

Our two guests were introduced, Patricia Mills of First California Funding and Greg Wynn of My California Loan. Both were coming back for a second time and both were mortgage loan consultants.

Good News

Moving right into good news we learned that:

  • Dr. Shamim Matin really helped a patient receive care for a kidney issue. Dr. Shamim discovered in his exam that the patient’s pain emanated from his kidney, not from a bone or muscle issue. He sent the patient to his primary care doctor. We hope the patient receives the care he needs for his kidney and resolves his issue.
  • Steve Clark our General Contractor and Michael Calabrese our Painter are working together on a project and having a great time collaborating.
  • On a lighter note, Carol Lord Heuschele our Marketing Consultant, back from vacation in Baja reported that her son, Kyle kissed a whale!

Big Tipper: Patty Sterling

Remember, the Big Tipper for the month is Patty Sterling of Pacific Coast Trust. Keep trying to tip Patty and you might be the winner of the biggest tipper to Patty for the month.

Networking Around Town

Anne Pettay of Guardian reported on the other networking opportunities around town.  Jasmine Guerrero of Farmer’s Insurance and Dr. Shamim Matin, our chiropractor both went to the Chamber of Commerce event and really had a great time tag teaming it and getting lots of potential contacts. Anne will be reporting on these events that you can go to and expand your networking even more!

Seth O'Byrne: Helping Out Homeowners

This week our speaker was Seth O’Byrne of O’Byrne Real Estate Consultants. He discussed short sales of homes. He had some very interesting statistics that were thought provoking. For example, one in eight homes are in trouble, either in foreclosure or behind in payments or becoming a short sale. Another statistic is that one in 10 homes that are in trouble is not seeking help for their issues. Seth also wanted us to know that some banks make more money with short sales due to FDIC insurance coverage.

In order to qualify for a short sale your must meet the following qualifications:

  • in distress,
  • can’t hold onto the home or make payments,
  • and your home must be “upside down” (you owe more than its worth).

But there is hope if you are forced into a short sale; there is no financial liability for a simple short sale, and it can’t ruin your credit for longer than two years.

Finally Seth announced that his company is doing a downtown property bus tour of properties in distress for those who want to invest downtown or live downtown. This tour will be Saturday, March 13th and you need to RSVP with Seth in order to save your spot.

At the end of the meeting we had a “speak-off” to select which mortgage loan consultant would join our group. Both Patricia and Greg did a fabulous job of telling us all about their companies and what they would bring to WIN LeTip. After they left, the voting was a tight race (since both candidate were excellent) but Greg Wynn came out on top. We would like to welcome Greg as our newest member in the category of mortgage loan consultant.

We had a great meeting and look forward to seeing everyone and any guests that would like to try out networking with WIN LeTip.

And remember the quote of the day by Aristotle:

"Excellence is not a singular act, but a habit. You are what you repeatedly do."
